This canvas is a collage of fabrics with embroidery inserts that synthesizes the image of the Nativity of Caravaggio trafunged by the Oratory of the Company of San Lorenzo in Palermo in 1969 and then destroyed by Mafia in the 90's during the negotiations with the Italian State for the modification of the 41bis. The new painting version was obtained by reworking a documentary photograph taken in the 50's. The new collages lose the resemblance to the starting subject, to become a geometric icon that preserves the signs of the painting's history to offer new poetic readings.
Questa tela è un collages di stoffe con inserto in ricamo che sintetizza l'immagine della Natività del Caravaggio trafugata dall’Oratorio della Compagnia di San Lorenzo di Palermo nel 1969 e poi distrutta dalla mafia negli anni 90 durante la trattativa con lo Stato Italiano per la modifica del 41bis.
La nuova versione del dipinto è stata ottenuta rielaborando una fotografia documentativa scattata al dipinto originale negli anni 50. Il collages perde la somiglianza con il soggetto di partenza, e si trasforma in un'icona geometrica che conserva in sè i segni della storia del dipinto ed offre nuove letture poetiche.
