The video shows a Chinese artist while painting 144 small oil paintings representing the Eric's portrait. The artist in the video is presented as “Il Sembiante” becoming a metaphor of that condition of doubling that Lacan sums up with the term “Altro da sé” (“Other than himself”). “Il Sembiante” is the “Other than himself”, the moment in which it is generated that condition of dialogue with oneself, in which the subject is observed from the outside and can be analyzed through his own re ection. The result of this dialogue are 144 paintings that mark the time that the Chinese painter spent portraying himself.
Il video mostra un artista cinese mentre dipinge 144 piccoli dipinti ad olio raffiguranti il ritratto di Eric. L’artista nel video viene presentato come “il Sembiante” in quanto si fa metafora di quella condizione di sdoppiamento che Lacan sintetizza con l’espressione “Altro da sé”. Il Sembiante è l’Altro da sé, il momento in cui si genera quella condizione di dialogo con se stessi, in cui il soggetto si osserva da fuori e si riesce ad analizzare attraverso la propria immagine riflessa. Frutto di questo dialogo sono i 144 dipinti che scandiscono il tempo che il pittore cinese ha trascorso ritraendo se stesso.
